Cody Rhodes: WWE Loyalty & Retirement Plans (2025)

Cody Rhodes: WWE for Life?

It's a question that's been on the minds of wrestling fans everywhere: How much longer will one of WWE's top stars, Cody Rhodes, grace the squared circle? The answer, according to Rhodes himself, is likely... a while, but with a firm end in sight. In a recent appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, Rhodes made it crystal clear: his next contract with WWE will 'probably' be his last.

Sean Rueter, who has been immersed in the world of pro wrestling since WrestleMania I, and blogging about it for SBNation & Cageside Seats since around WrestleMania 28, has been following the story closely. Rhodes, the current Undisputed WWE Champion, also known as 'QB1,' is clearly thinking about his future, especially as other wrestling legends prepare to step away from the ring.

As the likes of John Cena, AJ Styles, and others approach the twilight of their careers, the topic of retirement is on everyone's mind. Rhodes, discussing his legendary father, Dusty Rhodes, and his own family, hinted at his desire to balance his career with his role as a father to his wife and two young daughters.

"You can only go so long — and I think I know my number, where I’d like to get with this." Rhodes stated. He wants to be present for his children, much like his father was for him. Dusty Rhodes' full-time in-ring career ended in 1990 when he was 45, and Cody was in high school. Cody turned 40 this past summer, and his eldest daughter is 4, with a new baby just a couple of months old.

Rhodes' words echo the sentiments of many athletes: wanting to be there for their families. He explained that he wants to be the kind of dad who is actively involved in his children's lives, just like his father, Dusty Rhodes, was for him.

But here's where it gets interesting: Rhodes is all in with WWE. "The next contract I sign with WWE is probably going to be my last, and finish my days with WWE. It’s the house that built me, and it’s the house that brought me back." This statement underscores his loyalty to the company that has been a significant part of his career.

Controversy Alert!

It's worth noting that Rhodes' journey hasn't always been smooth. There seem to be lingering feelings between Rhodes and AEW, the promotion he helped establish. This adds a layer of complexity to his career path. Do you think there's still unfinished business there?
